Self Portrait, 2010

Syd London holds a deep reverence for the potential power of the photographic image. Her passion is story telling of subcultures that are often ignored, misunderstood or mis-portrayed. She strives to communicate the visceral moments of what is ultimately a shared human experience.

Currently: Syd works as a freelance photographer, photojournalist. She’s a regular contributing photographer to Time Out NY and Curve Magazine. Syd’s photographs are traveling in 2 exhibits. The Invisible Project, a photo documentary and solo show which has appeared in three state houses and continues to travel the United States since 2010. NYC In FOCUS, vol. 2, a group photo exhibit which has been traveling the 5 buroughs of New York City since June 2011.

Publications: Syd has been published by The NY Times Magazine, Barnard Center for Research on Women, Time Out NY, The Village Voice, InStyle, Curve Magazine, Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice, The Trevor Project, AOL’s Spinner.com, The Westchester Philharmonic, am NEW YORK, The Leslie/Lohman’s Gay Art Foundation’s Archive, Bilerico and Dapper Q to name a few.

Timeline: In 2011 Queers for Economic Justice, a grass roots not for profit org. invited Syd to become their official photographer and documentarian. In 2010 Syd became a member of the National Press Photographers Association and Riot Grrrl Ink. invited Syd to join their roster of artists as RGI’s first photographer. In 2009 she was the featured artist in the gallery show Judged For Sex at Hi Christina! in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Slide show installations have been seen from Manhattan to Rome. Syd continues to develop and build independent projects and documentaries.
